LO1 - Analysis of 2 Short Films

About A Girl (2001) Directed by Brian Percival. UK. (10 mins)

In terms of costume, the protagonist in this narrative is dressed in a weathered coat, black baggy trousers and muddy shoes, this is to act upon a stereotypical presentation of the lower class society, as these are more than likely second hand clothing that may have been passed down by an older sibling. Moreover, she  is wearing big hoop earrings which in most cases are used with women who are luxurious and wealthy, this juxtaposition of ideas could be a conflict between her dreams and reality as in her mind she will have ambitions to be wealthy. Moreover, the use of colour and location such as the side of the canal, the pub and the bus gives a clear indication that this is England in the 2000s and that it is located in the South, this is because the type of bus they are on is unique to England and also her accent indicated that she is from a lower social class, D to be specific, and an area such as Northern London.

In terms of shot types, as this is a narrative from the point of view there are many close up shots of the narrator's voice, this is in order to close in on their expressions to give emphasis on any emotions that they would be feeling as they talk.
