LO3 - Audio editing and dubbing techniques

First of all you need to select the full clip, once you do this a white box will appear around both (this means that the audio and clip you have chosen is linked). If you want to the unlink your audio and chose a different audio then you need to right click onto the clip.

After you have right clicked a drop down menu will appear, to unlink the audio you need to scroll down the menu then press onto unlink, I did this because I wanted to get rid of the background audio since there was roadworks happening and people shouting where we were filming. Furthermore, after you have unlinked the audio there shouldn't be a white box around both of the    clip and audio and there should just only be box around the clip.

Once you have unlinked the audio from the clip you then need to click on the audio you want to delete and then either right click and press cut or press the backspace button on your keyboard. This would then clear the audio from the editing bar which then allows you to add your own audio into the clip.

After you have cleared the audio from the clip that you didn't need you then can import your own music, this for us is some casual background music, we use this audio because it allowed us get rid of the workers in the background and the noise their drill was making and create a more peaceful atmosphere. Even tho the music we used is non-diegetic it still gives a natural feel to the film. This is also music that is used in our selected genre, romance and comedy, because the music is quite funny as in not natural but in most romance short films they use to convey the protagonists normal day.

Once you have selected your chosen music you then need to drop it under your chosen clip and then it will play over the clip. We used the scene of the protagonist walking down the street as the chosen scene for the jolly background music because it allowed us to show how happy the protagonist feels happy that he is seeing the girl of his dreams everywhere but he still doesn't have the courage to talk to her. The music conveys by it fading as the girl leaves the frame.

During production, when filming the cafe scene, we filmed when the building was quite empty so there wasn't much background noise to work with so we had to layer an audio track over the master audio, it was of people talking and it was used to make the scene have more life and warmth, it wasn't as loud as the original footage and as the protagonist moved further upstairs, I made the background noise quieter to simulate moving from a busy room to a dark one.

This is the footage from the bench, we filmed next to a fountain and that became very loud so I had to edit the audio to make the fountains audio less prominent in the scene, this was to make the vocals easier to hear while retaining realism within the scene.
